Overseas Correspondent Lawyers
The International Law Partnership employs a wide variety of lawyers, paralegals and supporting staff of many nationalities.
Despite this there are times when we need to make use of a lawyer overseas. Sometimes it is simply more cost effective to do so. For example, if we need to retrieve documents from the local Town Hall or Land Registry. On other occasions we need lawyers with specific skills that our UK based staff do not possess – for example, an expert in Bulgarian Intellectual Property law or in Turkish shipping law.
On other occasions our clients will ask us to give an overview of their documents and to deal with the international aspects of the case but wish us to refer the day to day conduct of the case to a local lawyer.
For these reasons we have, over the years, built up a series of 'correspondent lawyers' around the world.
These are independent lawyers, qualified in the countries where they practise and regulated by their own bar. But they have worked closely with us and agreed to follow a system of working designed to make sure that nothing gets overlooked or taken for granted. In some cases we have been working with these lawyers for nearly 25 years!
When you ask us to act for you we will discuss with you how your cases would best be dealt with – by us alone, by us and our overseas colleagues or by them alone – and proceed accordingly.
