Our Clients
Our clients are mainly private clients and small businesses, mostly based in an English speaking country who have the need for legal services in or relating to another country.
But we also provide legal assistance for other professionals and for various types of groups, unions and other entities.
hichever group you fall in, our constant aim is to provide cost effective solutions to your international legal problems.
Private Clients
We provide a full range of services for private (i.e. non-business) clients needing help in connection with an international legal problem.
Our organisation and charging structure is designed to make our services affordable by individuals needing help or advice.
Business Clients
We provide a full range of services for business clients needing help in connection with an international legal problem.
We specialise in providing services to new businesses and to small and medium size enterprises, though larger companies are always welcome.
Professional Clients
A great deal of our business comes via other professionals - lawyers, accountants, banks, financial advisers etc.
This is because many recognise that they do not have the expertise to give cross border advice - i.e. advice involving the law of more than one country.
Attempting to give advice in those cases is probably in breach of the professional’s obligation only to take on cases in which he has sufficient expertise to give an adequate service. It is also, these days, dangerous in that it can lead to compensation claims from dissatisfied clients.
Professionals choose to instruct us because:
- they know that we specialise in giving that cross border advice
- we guarantee that we will not act for any client introduced to us in any other case without their consent
In short, their clients will remain their clients
Organisations
What do we mean by an organisation?
This is normally a group of people who have got together for some purpose. Usually, the aims of the organisation are not commercial.
Typical examples of organisations that may benefit from our services are:
- Trade unions
- Groups formed to pursue collective action after an accident or disaster
- Residents Groups
- Self help groups in failed developments
- Timeshare owners committees
- Charities operating internationally
How can we help?
We can help in a number of ways. Many issues are the same as those facing private individuals or companies.
In addition, we can:
- advise about your constitution
- advise whether you are authorised to carry out your plans in your target country
- advise about the cross border tax implications of your proposals
- prepare detailed plans to give effect to your proposals
- attend meetings and explain the plans and the international law issues that arise from them
In a limited number of cases our services may be available at a subsidised rate from our "pro bono publico" (public service) budget.
Residents’ associations & Communities of Owners
In most countries residential developments, especially where they share common facilities such as swimming pools or gardens, often have a community of owners structure. This is similar to the US concept of the condominium.
