A Place In The Sun - June 2007 - Buying in France - Bank Accounts

Posted on Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:11PM
Question: I am buying a property in France and have been told that I need a bank account. Is this true?

Answer: Technically you don’t actually need a bank account anywhere – but it makes very good sense to do so. It is likely that you will have to set up direct debits to pay the utility bills and this will be much easier with a French bank account. If you need a French mortgage you will need to set up a bank account there to make the payments for that mortgage. I am also assuming that you will want to use the property from time to time and having a French bank account for spending money when you are there will be useful.
