A Place In The Sun - July 2007 - Buying in the Caribbean

Posted on Tuesday, 30 October 2007 03:21PM
Question: I am thinking about buying a property in the Caribbean. Are the laws over there similar to those in the UK?

Answer: The Carribbean is really an area rather than a specific country. Each country within the Caribbean will have its own sets of laws which may be very different from those around it. Certainly several different places have an influence from UK law, but then also may have an influence from France, the US and any of the other countries that have colonised that country in the past. I suggest you speak to a lawyer who understands the law of that country to advise you on the purchase.
